Waterloo Region Votes is a project of CivicTechWR, a local group that attempts to improve the lives of residents in Waterloo Region through civic technology.
Over 9000 people used the municipal iteration of the site during the 2018 election and the project was featured in the Waterloo Region Record, CBC KW, CBC News Network and Code for Canada’s 2019 Showcase.

No. As of June 13, 2019, there are new Elections Canada rules for third parties. Individuals, corporations or groups spending $500 or more on regulated activities that take place during the pre-election period or election period need to register as a third party to conduct regulated activities like partisan activities, election surveys, partisan advertising and election advertising.
CivicTechWR’s only expenditure on waterlooregionvotes.org is domain registration for the website.
